DevOps Engineer

For our client in Amsterdam, we are looking for a DevOps Engineer.

The Mission

Our client's Payment and Settlement Services ("PSS") aims to further mature, develop and expand the organization's state of the art payments platforms and settlement services. PSS focuses on delivering payments and settlement services, meeting the expectations of the business lines and beyond, whilst ensuring the basics: safe, secure, compliant, and reliable. PSS is an independent unit within the organization's CTO domain, reporting directly into the Chief Technology Officer.

PSS is responsible for providing standardized payments and settlements services to multiple business lines (WB, Retail, and others). There is a clear ambition to also look for external commercialization of the payment platforms.

You will focus predominantly on the development and extension of the platform of the existing payment engine, APIs and microservices. These applications are written using Java, Spring frameworks (e.g., JPA, JMS, Streaming, Batch, etc.) and deployed via Azure DevOps pipeline.

What you'll do

Even if you'll start your day from the comfort of your home or drink your morning coffee in the office garden, your day will be quite similar when it comes to tasks:

• Responsibility for the DevOps platform. You automate relentlessly: manage configuration via Ansible, deploy through Azure DevOps and GitHub pipelines, and leave no opportunity untouched to automate repetitive operational tasks using Python and Shell scripting.
• Have a complete picture of Deployments, Operations, Production Support, High Availability, Disaster Recovery, Backup & Restore, Security Monitoring, and Full Stack Observability.
• Take ownership of Linux (RHEL) platform operations, ensuring stability, performance, security, and continuous improvement across the environment.
• Improve application and platform monitoring using Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry (OTEL), ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), and agreed alerting standards.
• Analyze logs, metrics, traces, and telemetry data to proactively identify issues, performance bottlenecks, and reliability risks.
• Support and perform High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) testing activities.
• Implement and work with the latest tooling, with a strong focus on automation, performance, stability, observability, and security.
• Take ownership of lifecycle management of platform components including Operating Systems, Middleware, Certificates, User Access Management, Vulnerability Remediation, Security Patching, and related controls.
• Find opportunities to automate existing features, operational processes, deployments, monitoring, alerting, and security controls.
• Understand the root cause of incidents, recurring issues, and service gaps, and propose sustainable solutions to prevent recurrence.
• Take ownership of issues and improvements, seeing them through to completion and providing comprehensive handovers where required.
• Assist with technical specifications for change requests and user stories.
• Analyze requirements and define their applicability within the technical platform landscape.
• Work on technical improvements including automation, Linux platform engineering, monitoring, observability, environment management, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Drive continuous deployment and delivery using Azure DevOps / GitHub pipelines.
• Collaborate within an Agile/Scrum squad, working closely with the Technical Product Owner and demonstrating solutions to stakeholders.
• Ensure IT Risk and Security controls are implemented, documented, and maintained in accordance with the organization's Information Security Management Policy.
• Comply with all internal guidelines, complete mandatory training on time, and always safeguard the integrity and reputation of the organization.

What you'll bring to the team

• 5+ years' experience in a DevOps, SRE, Platform Engineering, or Linux Engineering role.
• Strong hands-on experience with automation tools such as Ansible.
• Strong Linux administration experience, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), including troubleshooting, performance tuning, patching, and operational support.
• Cloud and CI/CD experience with Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions/Pipelines.
• Monitoring & Observability experience with Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry (OTEL), ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), or similar platforms.
• Experience with production monitoring, alerting, logging, tracing, root cause analysis, and incident management.
• Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals and troubleshooting in distributed environments.
• Experience with CI/CD and DevSecOps tooling such as Git, Azure DevOps, GitHub, SonarQube, Checkmarx.
• Experience with virtualization and container technologies such as VMware, Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, or OpenStack.
• Ability to automate deployments, releases, and operational activities using Python, Shell scripting, and Ansible.

• Basic knowledge of the Spring Boot framework.
• Experience with Oracle Database administration and troubleshooting.
• Low-latency infrastructure stack knowledge.
• Security and IT Risk experience (SOX, vulnerability management, security controls).
• Experience with TIBCO EMS/MQ.
• Experience with IBM WebSphere.
• RHEL certification (RHCSA/RHCE).
• Foreign languages: English (advanced).
• Education at Bachelor/Master level with a strong analytical background in Computer Science, Cybernetics, Software Engineering, Financial Engineering, or equivalent.
